在這個年頭，藝術家進佔工業區已不再是什麼新聞，在工廠大廈內弄一個藝術節般的活動亦算不上什麼新奇之事，但要數伙炭的不同，便在於今年已是伙炭的第五個年頭，以其名連結伙炭人一起有組織的開放工作室了。

進火炭，藝術家成為伙炭人，名字沿用數年後的今天變成了一種身份象徵。離開火炭，伙炭人沒有變回藝術家(因為他們由此至終都是藝術家)，他們失去的不過是一個身份認同。然而，有人愛失而復得，在火炭進進出出，有人卻一去不返，亦有人對此一見鍾情，要在此落地生根，買下單位，與伙炭共度餘生。兩間工作室的搬離，十個新面孔的進駐 (如被逼裸體工作室、Blue Lotus Gallery、一壺檸七、李展輝工作室等等)，引證了伙炭的生存模式。

伙炭藝術工作室開放計劃2008 有別於過往，將設置資訊中心以便參觀者查詢；開辦導賞團讓市民以至學生們參與；延長開放時間由下午2時開放至晚上8時，我們還特別印製「點線成網」小冊子和地圖，不但帶你上山落山走遍火炭，亦意指伙炭人 / 參與眾人是自由個體，遊走伙炭之餘，同時也是聯結一個伙炭社群網絡的絲線。

It is a common phenomenon for artist to move into industrial building in recent years. Perhaps it is not an anomaly to make an art-festival inside those buildings, too. But to mark the difference of Fotanian among many similar events, this year it is the fifth year for the studios to work under this name.

Rent a studio in Fotan then one can become a Fotanian. Though some artist may leave the district with their own reasons, some would come back after sometime; some foreign artists even have a love-at-first-sight with the place. Two studios had left the Open day scheme in this year, but ten green faces joined us (the Studio Bibiliotheque, the Blue Lotus Gallery, A Kettle of Lemonpop and Danny Lee Studio).

Fotanian Artists Studio Open Studios 2008 is going to set up an information booth to answer your enquiries; there will also be guided tours tailored for the students and general public; the opening hours will be extended – 2:00pm-8:00pm; and we have printed maps and booklets to guide your walk between the studios.
